Designs carved on stones are an epitome of style and bring back a statement from the era of palaces to our living spaces. Stoneworks require minimalist maintenance periodically to retain their glamour.

To maintain the majestic look and feel of the stones, let us take you through some dos and don’ts-

Do’s

  1. On completion of stone works, it is recommended to use a high-grade protective sealer as a fine coat in order to make the stones non-porous. It hinders absorption of any kind making it maintenance free for at least 2-3 years. Sealers also protect the stones from harsh weather conditions. Additionally, it acts as a protective layer for interiors and exteriors.
  2. Wipe the stones once in 6 months to remove residue settled, dust particles, liquid stains, water stamps and fingerprints. It helps maintain the radiance and vibrancy of stones. You can use a mild shampoo, which is an added advantage as it keeps away algae, fungus and bacteria that quicken the graceful ageing of stones.

Don’ts

  1. Scraping sharp metallic objects on stone have a higher possibility of etching the bits of stone leaves it blemished in appearance.
  2. Also tying ropes, banners and garlands on stones might affect the aesthetic appearance leaving it stained.
  3. Finally, never use acids and alkalis to clean the stones as they may crude it.

If there is no coating, the water gets absorbed by the stone. After the coating of the sealer, the water remains on the surface of the stone.
